Philosophy

“Teaching is the art of guiding students along their journey of learning”

I am a learner-directed teacher with a high priority in student-led growth. I believe in building confidence and intrinsic motivation. I believe good teachers have the following qualities:

  • Patient

  • Flexible

  • Personalized

  • Fun

  • Passionate

  • Structured

  • Creative

  • Reliable

And strive to live these qualities daily.

Our children are incredibly intelligent and curious. I love using their unique background and mentality to create reliable growth. While the students are the ones who need to be learning, I often find I learn a lot from them as well!

My methodology is highly based upon many schools of thought. One sentiment I love is:

“Teach them the way they learn” (Kenneth Dunn)

My personal technique comes from a mix of personal experience and theories by leading educational developers. Such theories include:

  • The Zone of Proximal Development Theory (Lev Vygotsky)

  • The TARGET Model (Carole Ames)

  • SMART goal setting (George T. Doran)

  • Bloom’s Taxonomy (Benjamin Bloom)

  • Theory of Cognitive Development (Jean Piaget)

  • The Spiral Curriculum (Jerome Bruner)

I also seek to use constructivism more than behavioralism to get a better idea of where a student is at in the mental process.
