“Teaching is the art of guiding students along their journey of learning”
I am a learner-directed teacher with a high priority in student-led growth. I believe in building confidence and intrinsic motivation. I believe good teachers have the following qualities:
Patient
Flexible
Personalized
Fun
Passionate
Structured
Creative
Reliable
And strive to live these qualities daily.
Our children are incredibly intelligent and curious. I love using their unique background and mentality to create reliable growth. While the students are the ones who need to be learning, I often find I learn a lot from them as well!
My methodology is highly based upon many schools of thought. One sentiment I love is:
“Teach them the way they learn” (Kenneth Dunn)
My personal technique comes from a mix of personal experience and theories by leading educational developers. Such theories include:
The Zone of Proximal Development Theory (Lev Vygotsky)
The TARGET Model (Carole Ames)
SMART goal setting (George T. Doran)
Bloom’s Taxonomy (Benjamin Bloom)
Theory of Cognitive Development (Jean Piaget)
The Spiral Curriculum (Jerome Bruner)
I also seek to use constructivism more than behavioralism to get a better idea of where a student is at in the mental process.
